The Department of Medicine, Rajshahi Medical College was the first department after inception of Rajshahi Medical College in the year 1958. This department had been flourished to work in full phase in the year 1965. This department has a long and proud history of providing service to the patient of not only from Rajshahi region but also from greater north-south Bengal with good reputation. It has become the leading department in this medical college for comprehensive, integrated and coordinated service. It is situated in ground, first, Second and third floor of eastern wing of rajshahi medical college hospitals new and old building. This department had been served by many renowned, legendary professor of medicine including Prof. Md RafiqueUddin, Prof. Quazi Tarikul islam.Prof. MA Azhar, Prof Khan Abul Kalam Azad, Prof HAM Nazmul Ahsan, Prof Enamul Karim & Prof M N Alam. At present department is headed by prof. Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman. Under his guidance and supervision good number of professors, Associate professors, Assistant professors, and Registrars are rendering their active effort. Department of medicine provides academic and clinical activities side by side. Undergraduate students of 3rd year,4th year, 5th year and 3rd year BDS attend their clinical classes here both morning and evening. Post graduate students of different faculties also receive their clinical training and attend clinical classes regularly. In the year 2002, Doctor of medicine (MD) in Internal Medicine course started and by the year 2014 almost 30 studentshas obtained their MD degree in internal medicine under university of Rajshahi. Since year 2014, MD (Internal medicine) Residency course has been conducted here. Assistant registrars, indoor medicine officers and honorary medical officers from certain discipline do their post graduate training in the medicine as a pre requisite of post graduationexamination. Department has five separate units. Patients get regular indoor and outdoor medical services from qualified physicians in this department. Resident physician and outdoor medical officers give regular medical services to hundreds of patients everyday at outpatient department.
