Department of Oral Microbiology

Introduction

The Department of Oral Microbiology at Rajshahi Medical College is dedicated to teaching the fundamental principles of microbiology as they relate to oral health and disease. The department helps dental students understand the role of microorganisms in the development and progression of common oral conditions such as dental caries, periodontal diseases, and oral infections.

Through lectures, seminars, and case-based discussions, students are introduced to the basic concepts of bacteriology, virology, mycology, and immunology relevant to dentistry. Emphasis is placed on understanding the oral microbial environment, mechanisms of infection, host immune response, and the principles of infection control in dental practice.

Although the department currently does not have a dedicated laboratory facility, teaching activities focus on theoretical knowledge, clinical correlation, and interpretation of microbiological concepts in everyday dental practice.

Overall, the Department of Oral Microbiology contributes to strengthening the scientific foundation of dental students and promotes a better understanding of the microbial factors involved in oral diseases and their prevention.
